Slaves who knew of freedom would do nearly anything to obtain it. Running away is one option that barley ever had good ending, you were either caught and killed or forced back on to the plantation. Other methods included rebelling against the slave master, working slow or breaking equipment on purpose or the greatest act of rebellion, suicide.
